Most kids start with us around age 5. Our kids program runs through age 12 with classes grouped by age and experience, so beginners aren't paired up with kids who have been training for years.
No. Most adults who walk in for their first class have not trained before and are not in fighting shape. Classes are scaled to your level. You build conditioning by showing up, not before.
Gi training uses the traditional uniform, which adds grips and changes the pace and strategy. No-gi is done in shorts and a rash guard, which is faster and emphasizes body control. We run both, and most students train in both once they are settled in.
No. Your first class focuses on warm-up, basic movements, and a technique drill. You only spar when you feel ready, and when you do, it's controlled and supervised, not a fight.
Comfortable athletic clothes work for a trial: shorts or sweatpants and a t-shirt or rash guard. No shoes on the mat. If you decide to keep training, we'll get you set up with a gi.
